The Salmon River Complex is currently 9,809 acres with 30 percent containment. There are 31 crews, 56 engines, 5 dozers and 21 water tenders for a total of 1,147 personnel working on the fire.

Today’s Actions:

Today, firefighters continued to mop up along the Salmon River Road and to construct handline on the north and northeast side of the fire. A window of clear sky allowed for retardant use east of Neilon Gulch to keep the fire’s progress in check, permitting firefighters to continue to construct handline towards Tanners Peak.

Tonight, firefighters will monitor and patrol the along Sawyers Bar Road and along the North Fork of the Salmon River to Mule Bridge.

A community meeting was held tonight at the Salmon River Restoration Council in Sawyers Bar. Fire officials provided an operational update on the Salmon River Complex and Butler Fires.

Fire Behavior and Air Quality:

Today, there was creeping fire activity with limited fire spread. The Salmon River Complex increased by about 80 acres today. Large diameter fuels and stumps continue to hold heat. Tonight, minimal fire activity is expected.

Air quality in Sawyers Bar was in the unhealthy for sensitive groups to unhealthy range most of the day, and will remain at that level through the night. Etna and Ft. Jones saw light smoke today, increasing levels of smoke will occur this evening when levels may reach into the moderate range and last through the night. For information on smoke conditions, visit Siskiyou County Pollution Control District (http://www.co.siskiyou.ca.us/ag/apc.aspx) or the North Coast Unified Air Quality Management District (http://ncuaqmd.org/). Residents are encouraged to visit the “Protect Yourself from Smoke” website for smoke protection information athttp://www.cdc.gov/Features/Wildfires/.

Closure Order: A new Forest Order went into effect today expanding the prior closure around the Salmon River Complex and Butler Fires on the Klamath and Six Rivers National Forests. Sawyers Bar Road remains closed to public traffic from Etna Summit to the Forks of Salmon. Residents, with proof of residency, will be allowed through the closure. Residents may encounter one-way traffic control within the closure area. The Salmon River Road remains closed west of Forks of Salmon. Please seehttp://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/stelprdb5430601.pdffor the full closure order and associated map.
